Arm has introduced the Mali G2 NX graphics platform, designed to enhance mobile gaming graphics through AI-driven reconstruction. The system allocates only one-eighth of its resources to native rendering, while the remaining seven-eighths are dedicated to AI algorithms for image reconstruction.

The platform features three key AI technologies: Neural Super Sampling (NSS), which scales images from 540p to 1080p to halve DRAM bandwidth and power consumption; Neural Frame Rate Upscaling (NFRU), which generates intermediate frames based on motion and depth data; and Neural Super Sampling and Denoising (NSSD), which optimizes real-time ray tracing by reducing the number of rays per pixel.

The hardware includes a third-generation ray tracing block that reduces DRAM load by up to 13% through shared edge calculation. It also supports Hardware Opacity Micromaps (OMM) for more efficient ray tracing of transparent objects.

According to Arm, the Mali G2-Ultra NX can increase performance from 15 to 60 frames per second while reducing DRAM consumption by up to 70%. Ray tracing units show a 24% performance boost, with a 14% increase even without AI features. The company expects game developers to integrate these solutions within 1.5 years, with the chips debuting in the coming weeks.
