Arm has launched the Mali G2-Ultra NX graphics processor, which features an integrated AI gaming accelerator. The chip debuts in the Xiaomi 18 Fold smartphone in mainland China, integrated into the custom Xring O3 chipset. Arm claims the new GPU provides an 85 percent performance increase over previous Xiaomi-used GPUs and a 14 percent boost over its own prior flagship in non-AI gaming.

The new architecture introduces neural graphics, including AI upscaling, frame generation, and ray reconstruction. These techniques aim to reduce the rendering workload by using AI to generate pixels and frames. Arm states that applying Neural Super Sampling, Neural Frame Rate Upscaling, and Neural Denoising simultaneously can theoretically increase frame rates by up to four times.

The technology is designed for energy efficiency, with the GPU consuming 1.5 watts within a total chip power envelope of 2.5 watts. This allows for sustained gaming sessions, such as 1080p at 60 frames per second for three hours. The Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro Max tablet, also using the Xring O3 chip, demonstrates 3.2K resolution at 120 frames per second.

Arm plans to expand the technology beyond flagship smartphones to premium and pro device segments, including tablets and Chromebooks, starting next year. While super sampling is available now, frame generation is expected in early 2027, followed by denoising. Confirmed titles supporting the accelerator include Where Winds Meet, Infinity Nikki, and Arena Breakout: Infinite.
