Aptos Labs and Jump have transitioned their decentralized storage platform, Shelby, into private beta. The system is now processing live workloads for three initial enterprise clients.

The platform is designed as a verifiable object storage solution optimized for AI-driven tasks, aiming for sub-second read speeds. It utilizes erasure coding to ensure data redundancy and integrity.

The network is compatible with the S3 interface, allowing integration with existing developer tools. Aptos smart contracts manage network coordination and provide on-chain verification of data provenance.

The three early adopters include Teepin, which focuses on enterprise AI pipelines; Pictor Network, specializing in distributed 3D rendering; and PathPulse, which handles spatial intelligence data.

Development of Shelby began with an announcement in mid-2025, followed by a testnet phase that concluded on August 3, 2026. The team prioritized API compatibility and developer tooling based on feedback.

The APT token plays a functional role within the ecosystem, as it is utilized for transaction fees and network coordination tasks.
