Aptos has launched Confidential APT on its mainnet, allowing users to encrypt token balances and transfer amounts. While balances are hidden, wallet addresses remain visible on-chain to maintain regulatory compliance. The feature is an opt-in, 1:1 wrapped version of APT integrated into the Petra Wallet.
The system utilizes zero-knowledge proofs and homomorphic encryption to verify transaction validity and fund availability without revealing the actual numbers. Currently, only the native APT token is eligible for confidential transactions, though the standard is designed to be extended to other tokens via future governance votes.
The network is targeting compliance-heavy business use cases, such as B2B settlements, corporate treasury management, and payroll processing. This allows companies to hide transaction sizes from competitors and the public while providing cryptographic proof of validity.
The rollout followed Proposal #188, which was approved by the community around April 24-25, 2026. Petra Wallet confirmed support on August 4, 2026, and by mid-August 2026, approximately 15,000 APT had moved into confidential pools.
Aptos has seen significant infrastructure growth since its mainnet launch in October 2022. By April 2026, the network's daily transaction volumes had exceeded 8 million.
