Users of Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4 have reported skin irritation, including redness and a burning sensation, in the area beneath the device sensors. These reports emerged on platforms such as Reddit and various forums following prolonged wear of the smartwatches.
The affected users suggest that the issue might be linked to hardware modifications in the new models. These changes include an expanded surface area for ECG electrodes, a circular arrangement of photodiodes, and larger green LED components. Additionally, the devices are configured to measure heart rate every 5 seconds.
Apple has addressed the situation through its official support documentation. The company notes that skin reactions can be caused by improper band fit, whether too tight or too loose. Furthermore, residues from sweat, soap, sunscreen, or lotions trapped under the watch may contribute to irritation.
The manufacturer advises users to maintain cleanliness and dryness for both the watch and the band. Apple recommends that individuals experiencing symptoms such as swelling, itching, or redness should consult a medical professional before resuming the use of their wearable devices.
