Users of the newly released Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 are reporting frequent random reboots. Diagnostic logs from at least four users indicate that the issue is linked to a timeout within the Apple Neural Engine, which triggers a kernel panic and forces the device to restart.
The problem persists across various scenarios, including using Siri, navigating maps, or tracking workouts. Some devices reboot even when idle. The issue affects both the initial watchOS 27.0 version and updated software, and it continues to occur even after users perform a clean factory reset.
The devices are powered by the new S11 chip, which features enhanced AI and machine learning capabilities. Reports of the same Neural Engine panic have been documented on replacement units, suggesting the flaw may be deeply rooted in the software or the hardware platform itself.
While approximately 30 users have reported the issue on MacRumors forums, with additional reports appearing on Reddit and Apple support pages, the company has yet to issue an official statement or a fix. The devices, which launched on September 18, start at $399 and $799 respectively.
