The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) of India has launched an investigation into Apple regarding its software warranty policies. The regulatory body accuses the company of charging excessive repair fees to its customers.
The probe follows reports from iPhone 15 users who experienced green, pink, or white lines on their displays after updating to iOS 18 in 2024. Apple reportedly requested a repair fee of ₹27,900 from affected users to fix the screens.
Apple maintains that its policy of not providing software warranties aligns with its global standards. The company stated that iOS 18 does not have systemic issues and noted that the investigation is based on 75 consumer complaints.
According to Apple, its terms of service explicitly state that software is provided without any form of guarantee. The company clarified that its limited warranty covers hardware only, and users are responsible for repair costs if software issues occur.
