Apple has launched a revamped version of its Siri assistant, which now utilizes Google's Gemini models. The new AI-powered assistant is currently available in a beta version, supporting only English. Support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish is scheduled to arrive next month. These updates are part of the 2027 software releases, including iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, and visionOS 27.

The system operates using a hybrid approach, running models both on-device and through Private Cloud Compute. Apple states that personal data is not stored or accessed by the company. The new Siri can process information from messages, emails, and photos, and perform system-wide actions such as drafting emails or editing images. It integrates with third-party apps like WhatsApp and Audible, with support for Outlook and others coming soon.

Users can activate the assistant via voice commands, the side button, Dynamic Island, or Spotlight. A dedicated app manages chat history synchronization via iCloud. Additionally, Apple is introducing new system-wide AI features, including image editing tools in Photos, tab organization in Safari, and natural language shortcuts. Audio Intelligence features are also planned for the Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4.

The rollout of these AI features faces geographic restrictions. Siri AI will not be available in the EU or China at launch due to regulatory requirements. Apple is currently working to resolve these issues. While some features are available now, Apple has indicated that certain server-side capabilities will have daily usage limits, and expanded access to these tools may require payment in the future.
