Apple has expanded the Sound Glow feature to the second-generation HomePod and the original HomePod mini. This update is included in the HomePod Software 27.2 RC release.
The Sound Glow feature synchronizes the light on the top of the speaker with the rhythm of the music. It extracts two or three dominant colors from the album cover of the playing track or podcast to create dynamic light effects.
According to the software code, the LightShowCapability check is set to productType greater than 1, which excludes only the original first-generation HomePod from receiving this update.
Users can enable the feature by updating their devices to version 27.2 and toggling the Sound Glow switch in the Home app. For those using HomePod with Apple TV, the effect can also be managed via the HomePod menu in the Apple TV Control Center.
