Apple is actively expanding its research into 6G technology, with the commercial launch of the next-generation communication standard expected around 2030. The company has been preparing for the final implementation of 6G standards since at least 2020.

The corporation is currently hiring a 6G cellular modem system engineer. This specialist will be responsible for defining and developing next-generation cellular communication technologies to facilitate the company's transition to the 6G era.

As Apple designs its own modems, it aims to build a robust technical foundation before 6G becomes commercially available. The technology is currently in the R&D phase, with specific frequency bands and performance metrics pending approval later this year.

The development goals for 6G include higher data upload speeds, reduced latency, and improved energy efficiency. These enhancements are expected to expand upon existing 5G applications, such as home broadband, as the technology matures.

Apple is a founding member of the Next G Alliance, an industry organization established by the Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions (ATIS) to promote 6G development in North America. Other major players like Qualcomm, Nokia, Samsung, and Ericsson are also involved in 6G research.
