Apple is developing a tabletop robotic device under the internal code name J595. The hardware features a screen of approximately 9 inches mounted on a motorized arm that provides 360-degree rotation. The device is designed to track users via voice recognition and orient the display toward them during interactions.
The project is positioned as a premium version of the existing HomeView smart display, often referred to as HomeView Pro. While the standard HomeView model launched on October 13, 2026, for $299, the J595 is expected to retail for around $1,000. It is intended for tasks such as video conferencing and home management.
Development of the J595 is led by Kevin Lynch, who previously managed Apple Watch projects. The initiative originated from robotics research that gained traction following the cancellation of Apple's self-driving car program. The company aims to differentiate this product as a high-end alternative to its entry-level smart display.
The release timeline for the device remains uncertain due to ongoing challenges with AI integration and general development. While initial projections suggested a launch between 2026 and 2027, current estimates point to late 2027 or 2028. Apple has not yet provided an official price or a confirmed release date.
