Swiss cleantech startup Apolarion, a spin-off from EPFL, has secured €164 000 (CHF 150 000) in funding from Venture Kick. The company, founded by Jesus Poley and Luke Simons, is developing a modular device that utilizes cold atmospheric plasma to treat seeds without the use of chemicals.
The technology relies on air and electricity to generate reactive particles that neutralize pathogens while maintaining seed germination capabilities. This approach is designed to offer a sustainable alternative to conventional chemical coatings and energy-intensive heat-based treatments.
Apolarion plans to allocate the capital toward its first field trials and initial customer deployments. The funding will also cover the costs of operational facilities, necessary equipment, and personnel required for pilot programs as the company enters the Swiss and European markets.
