The AnyPS5 project has reached a major milestone by successfully translating all 1166 GPU shader instructions used by the PlayStation 5. This achievement means the Oberon graphics engine, which is based on RDNA 2 architecture, is now fully decoded.
The project functions by relinking PS5 executables into native formats for Windows and Linux, while recompiling shaders into SPIR-V for Vulkan. Because the console uses x86-64 Zen 2 hardware, the developers can bypass CPU emulation entirely.
Progress continues on the system libraries, which are essential for dynamic linking. Out of 3034 total native PS5 libraries, the team has already translated 2573, reaching a completion rate of 84.81%.
Once the remaining 461 libraries are finished, the system will be able to execute PS5 games natively on PC hardware. This approach mirrors the functionality of compatibility layers like Wine or Proton.
