Anthropic has introduced Claude Duet, a research preview of an autonomous agent designed to operate independently. Unlike the standard Claude application, which requires user initiation, Duet proactively manages tasks by running on a virtual machine. This cloud-based environment allows the agent to continue working even when the user's local devices are powered off.
The agent integrates with external services such as Gmail, Slack, Stripe, Docusign, and Shopify, utilizing over 6,000 connectors from the Claude Marketplace. It is capable of drafting payment reminders, tracking invoices, and preparing payroll. For financial transactions, it employs Stripe Link with virtual cards to ensure that sensitive payment details remain protected.
Safety protocols include a requirement for user approval before the agent performs sensitive actions like sending messages, signing documents, or making payments. The system is restricted from trading securities or transferring funds between accounts. Additionally, the agent does not access passwords directly, relying on the Claude Managed Agents architecture for credential handling.
To prevent data leaks, Anthropic implemented a new classifier and specific safety instructions that block the sharing of credit card numbers or identification details. The company also conducted red-team testing and external security audits to identify potential vulnerabilities. The agent currently checks connected accounts every few hours to manage subscription limits.
