Anthropic has signed a six-year cloud computing agreement with Rum Group, the parent company of the video platform Rumble. The deal involves leasing compute capacity at a data center currently under construction in Georgia. The facility was originally expected to be operational by late 2025, though the current timeline remains uncertain.
Rum Group disclosed in August that it lacks the necessary financing for the facility and its equipment, with plans to borrow funds to cover construction costs. The company entered the AI cloud sector in June by acquiring the German firm Northern Data and rebranding itself as Rum Group.
This partnership is part of a broader expansion for Anthropic, which has secured cloud deals with Google, SpaceX, and Nscale over the past year. Excluding the new Rum contract, the company's existing agreements represent at least 14.8 gigawatts of compute capacity, with costs projected to reach up to $517 billion over the next decade.
Separately, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has proposed a framework for placing independent evaluators within major AI companies and government bodies. The initiative aims to monitor the development of powerful models, though critics note that Anthropic's current model of paying and hosting these evaluators may compromise their independence.
