Anthropic has secured its first data center lease in Australia at the planned Western Downs Digital Park in Queensland. The project is led by Singapore-based developer Zerra DC in partnership with Australian Data Centres and Macquarie Capital.
The full campus is designed to span 725 hectares and support 1.44 GW of IT capacity across four buildings, each rated at 360 MW. Peak power consumption for the site is estimated at 2.16 GW.
The total investment for the development is projected between AUD 31.9 billion and AUD 32 billion. The facility will primarily handle inference workloads rather than model training.
The project includes plans for closed-loop air cooling and renewable power purchase agreements. The deal remains subject to approval from the Australian Foreign Investment Review Board.
