In its recent IPO filing, Anthropic highlighted significant regulatory risks, noting that government actions could impact not only its own operations but also its commercial partners. The company specifically cited a February executive order from President Donald Trump banning federal agencies from using its AI models, as well as its designation by the Department of Defense as a supply chain security risk.
Furthermore, the Department of Commerce imposed worldwide export restrictions on the company’s Fable 5 and Mythos 5 models in June. Despite these challenges, Anthropic reported that government contracts currently represent less than 1% of its annual revenue. The company is also under investigation by the Federal Trade Commission regarding the safety of its AI agents.
On September 29, Anthropic joined other industry leaders in signing the White House Accord on Super Intelligence, committing to four layers of safety controls and audits. CEO Dario Amodei described this agreement as an initial step. Additionally, the company plans to establish a Founder LLC, comprised of its seven co-founders, to prioritize its mission over market pressures.
Looking toward future growth, Anthropic projects $518 billion in expenditures for cloud, computing, and infrastructure requirements. Reports indicate the company is aiming for an IPO before Thanksgiving, seeking a valuation of $2 trillion.
