Anthropic is facing a class-action lawsuit from Claude users who claim the company used misleading advertising regarding the Max plan limits. The plaintiffs argue that the company aimed to maximize profits at the expense of customers by obscuring the actual usage quotas.
The Max plan offers two pricing tiers: $100 per month for limits 5 times higher than the Pro plan, and $200 per month for limits 20 times higher. However, users claim these figures are accompanied by misleading fine print. The promised increase applies only to five-hour intervals, which are further restricted by a weekly limit.
To understand the actual terms, users must navigate through multiple links to find the definition of a session. Plaintiffs argue that consumers should not have to search for these terms independently. Anthropic contends that the information was accessible via links during the purchase process, comparing it to reading a label on the back of a product.
The Max plan was announced in April 2025, and weekly restrictions were introduced a few months later. The company also noted that pricing for its latest model, Fable 5.1, was set based on user feedback regarding pricing. The initial complaint was filed in July, but was later withdrawn and refiled as an expanded class-action suit.
