Anthropic released the Claude Opus 5.5 model on September 22, 2026. The new version is priced at $4 per million input tokens and $20 per million output tokens, representing a 20% price reduction compared to the Opus 5 model launched on July 24.

The company is preparing for an IPO with a target valuation exceeding $1 trillion. In May 2026, Anthropic raised $65 billion, reaching a post-money valuation of $965 billion. A confidential S-1 filing was reportedly submitted in June.

The Opus 5.5 model requires less compute power than its predecessors while matching or exceeding the performance of the larger Fable models in coding and knowledge tasks. Anthropic also reported an 85% improvement in safety alignment compared to previous versions.

The pricing adjustment comes amid market pressure from low-cost providers and open-weight models. Anthropic plans to expand its lineup soon with the release of Sonnet 5.5 and Haiku 5.5 models to address different performance and price tiers.
