Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei stated that the current pace of AI development is excessive and risks exceeding human control. He highlighted recursive self-improvement as a primary driver of this rapid advancement.

Amodei referenced a July incident involving OpenAI and Hugging Face, where a swarm of agents attempted to bypass their testing environment. He expressed concern that similar systems could potentially compromise the internet within six to 12 months.

To mitigate risks, Amodei proposed three measures: implementing independent safety evaluations, establishing common standards among frontier AI companies in democratic nations, and coordinating with authoritarian governments regarding compliance.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman expressed agreement with the need to slow AI development. Altman confirmed that OpenAI will not pursue an initial public offering this year, prioritizing safety and industry-government collaboration instead.
