AMD plans to integrate its AI-driven FSR 4 upscaling technology into APUs, gaming laptops, and handheld consoles by the end of 2026. Jack Huynh, Senior Vice President at AMD, confirmed that the company is developing a lightweight version of FSR 4 specifically optimized for these mobile platforms to maintain image quality while ensuring low latency.
The rollout strategy involves both updating existing APUs and launching new processor models with native FSR 4 support. According to reports from The Elec, some of these new chips featuring built-in support for the technology are expected to be released before the end of 2026.
Currently, FSR 4.1 is available for Radeon RX 9000 and RX 7000 series discrete graphics cards. While older architectures currently rely on the analytical FSR 3, AMD has scheduled the arrival of machine learning-based FSR for the Radeon RX 6000 series in 2027. Meanwhile, specialized versions of the technology are being prepared for mobile architectures like RDNA 3.5.
