AMD has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire the AI laboratory World Labs, led by computer vision researcher Fei-Fei Li. The transaction is valued at approximately $8.2 billion and will be settled entirely in AMD stock.
Following the completion of the deal, Fei-Fei Li will join AMD as executive vice president and chief scientist, reporting directly to CEO Lisa Su. The entire World Labs team will also transition to the company.
World Labs specializes in spatial intelligence models capable of generating and simulating interactive 3D environments from text, images, and video. The lab also develops technologies for robotics training and simulation.
AMD plans to leverage this expertise to refine its hardware and software architectures for reasoning models and physical AI. The company expects to close the acquisition by the end of 2026, pending regulatory approvals.
The two companies have a history of collaboration, including joint work on model training and inference using AMD GPUs. Earlier this year, AMD participated in a $1 billion funding round for World Labs.
