The AMD Ryzen 5 5500F is a six-core, 12-thread processor based on the Zen 3 microarchitecture. It belongs to the Vermeer family of chips and features a boost clock speed of 4.4 GHz. The processor is designed without integrated graphics and carries a suggested retail price of $100, though market prices have reached $120.
Compared to the original Ryzen 5 5500, the 5500F offers a 200 MHz increase in boost clock speed and introduces support for PCIe 4.0. While the 5500 was limited to PCIe 3.0 and came from the Cezanne family, the 5500F utilizes the Vermeer architecture. Both chips share a 16 MB L3 cache, which is lower than the 32 MB found in other Vermeer processors.
In terms of performance, the Ryzen 5 5500F provides a 10% improvement in multithreaded tasks over the base 5500 model. It is positioned to compete with the Intel Core i3-14100F, narrowing the gaming performance gap at 1080p to 2.9%. The chip maintains a 65W TDP and an 88W platform maximum, and it includes the Wraith Stealth cooler in the box.
