Amazon has officially cautioned local communities against imposing moratoriums on data center construction. The company stated that such restrictions could negatively impact both the national economy and security, specifically hindering the progress of critical infrastructure and artificial intelligence initiatives.
The warning follows a surge in local opposition, with over 100 moratoriums currently under consideration across the United States. In response to these challenges, Amazon Web Services, under the leadership of CEO Matt Garman, has pledged more than $1 billion in support for communities that host its facilities.
This public stance is viewed as a strategic effort to sway legislative decisions at the local and state levels. Analysts are now closely watching government responses in regions like Oklahoma, where moratorium proposals are active, to gauge the future trajectory of data center regulations.
