Alibaba plans to expand its global cloud infrastructure to a capacity exceeding 20 GW by 2032. CEO Wu Yongming announced this goal during the annual Apsara technology conference held in Hangzhou.
The company intends to allocate significant capital toward building and developing AI infrastructure. This investment will focus on expanding the computing power of data centers required to support modern AI systems and cloud services.
The 20 GW target represents the total energy potential of the global Alibaba Cloud data center network. This initiative is driven by high customer demand for artificial intelligence capabilities.
In February 2025, Wu Yongming announced a three-year investment program totaling ¥380 billion, which is approximately $52 billion, dedicated to cloud platforms and AI infrastructure development.
Alibaba faces competition in the Chinese AI market from companies including Baidu, Tencent, DeepSeek, MiniMax, Moonshot AI, and Zhipu AI.
