Illuvium co-founder Kieran Warwick predicts that AI tools will enable the rapid creation of short-lived crypto games. He estimates that development costs can drop to around $1,000, with as many as 100,000 such titles potentially launching within a year.
Warwick suggests that these games may attract speculative traders similar to those who drove the memecoin boom in late 2024. However, he warns that many of these projects could be exploitative or short-lived, potentially leaving participants with significant financial losses.
Industry experts remain divided on the impact of this trend. While some compare the shift to the early days of mobile gaming, where lower barriers to entry increased variety, others like Mirai Labs CEO Corey Wilton point to weak demand for Web3 games as a primary hurdle.
Data from Dappradar indicates that 2,356 gaming decentralized apps currently hold a total value of $232.2 million. Meanwhile, a basket of the top 50 gaming tokens maintains a combined market capitalization of $3.8 billion.
Despite market challenges, some projects continue to secure funding. Developers of the upcoming game Yield Fields recently raised an estimated $8.3 million through the sale of digital land plots as nonfungible tokens.
