A study published by BearingPoint on October 1, 2026, reveals that only 13% of companies are successfully scaling their AI initiatives. While nearly 75% of respondents report positive financial outcomes from AI, fewer than one-third have advanced beyond the pilot phase.
Companies identified two primary barriers to scaling: 40% of respondents cited regulatory hurdles, while 34% pointed to difficulties integrating AI with legacy IT infrastructure. These findings align with broader research from Gartner and MIT regarding the challenges of moving AI projects into production.
The data highlights a disparity between cost reduction and revenue generation. While 24% of firms achieved at least 10% in cost savings through AI, only 4% saw revenue growth of 10% or more. Deep operational integration of AI rose to 11% in 2026, up from 7% the previous year.
Geographic implementation rates vary significantly. China leads with 20% comprehensive AI adoption, followed by the United States at 18%, while Germany stands at 8%. Related research from 2025 and 2026 indicates that only 5–14% of AI pilots yield significant production or profitability impacts.
