Launched in 2025, the AI-focused super PAC network Leading the Future has struggled to replicate the political influence of the crypto industry's Fairshake. Despite securing significant financial backing, the organization has failed to establish a comparable level of leverage among lawmakers on Capitol Hill.

Leading the Future began with a fund exceeding $100 million, which later grew to approximately $140 million. This total is comparable to the $131 million raised by Fairshake during the 2024 cycle. Key supporters include OpenAI president Greg Brockman and venture capitalists from Andreessen Horowitz.

By late September 2026, the network had spent approximately $55.7 million, primarily focusing on primary elections in safe districts where it achieved a success rate of roughly 90%. However, a notable contest in New York’s 12th congressional district in June 2026 saw the group spend over $8 million against $18 million in counter-spending.

The AI sector remains divided between pro-innovation and pro-safety factions, which has hindered the effectiveness of its political strategy. Unlike the crypto industry, which aligns its spending with specific legislation like the Clarity Act, AI lobbying efforts lack a unified focus, leading to internal competition for policy influence.
