The open-source project agent-wow has successfully guided an AI agent through the World of Warcraft Orc starting zone in 40 minutes with zero deaths. The agent, powered by the Astra model, achieved this without processing any visual game data, relying instead on raw network packets from the server.

The system operates on the AzerothCore private server using the 3.3.5a client version. Astra monitors 28 types of server messages to build an internal world model, including creature movement, combat stats, and quest triggers. It autonomously manages inventory, sells items, upgrades gear, and learns skills from trainers.

Astra handles navigation by generating its own C++ programs that utilize the Detour library and game mmaps to calculate paths. The agent demonstrated complex decision-making, such as batching quests and preparing for challenges, which were not explicitly defined in its initial prompts.

The developer plans to test whether an agent can level from 1 to 80 independently. Future research will also explore whether multiple agents can coordinate to complete the Icecrown Citadel raid, a high-complexity 25-player dungeon from the Wrath of the Lich King expansion.
