Advanced Electric Machines (AEM) unveiled technical specifications for its Titan heavy-duty motor at the IAA Transportation trade fair. The motor, which belongs to the HDRM family, operates without permanent magnets or rare earth materials. It achieves a peak output of 700 kW and 5,000 Nm of torque, with continuous performance rated at 500 kW and 3,500 Nm.

The Titan motor weighs approximately 200 kg and has a maximum speed of 4,000 rpm. AEM utilizes technologies such as compressed coils and an updated thermal management system to reach these density levels. The design features an extruded housing for variable lengths and is compatible with various output shafts and inverters.

AEM plans to make the first samples of the Titan motor available in the third quarter of 2027. The company is currently showcasing the unit as a 3D model. The motor design avoids demagnetization risks at high temperatures and speeds, and it includes a freewheeling function to allow for coasting without drive torque.

Founded in 2017 as a spin-out from Newcastle University, AEM focuses on motors made from recyclable materials like steel and aluminum. In 2024, the company reported revenue of £2.9 million and a loss of £8.3 million. AEM recently secured £16 million in funding to support the development of next-generation electric drivetrain technologies.
