The Acer Googlebook 14, released as part of a new lineup on September 21, is facing significant technical issues less than a week after hitting the market. At least four users have reported that their devices entered an infinite reboot loop immediately following a system update.
According to user reports, the problem triggers after the initial setup and connection to a smartphone. The laptop repeatedly cycles between the Acer logo and an update screen. Some users noted that the recovery mode fails to detect a network partition, rendering standard network recovery options unusable.
One user reported that the device became unresponsive before any actual usage. Since the recovery process requires a USB drive that currently lacks the necessary system files, the laptops remain effectively bricked for those affected by the update error.
Google employee Mishaal Rahman provided a potential workaround for the issue. He suggests that users disconnect all USB peripherals and enter the recovery menu by holding Esc and F2 while pressing the power button. From there, users may attempt to unlock the bootloader.
