Andreessen Horowitz released its seventh annual Top 100 Consumer AI Apps report on October 5, 2026. For the first time, the firm incorporated US consumer credit-card spending data alongside traditional web and mobile traffic metrics to analyze the market.

The data reveals that only 4.5% of US consumers pay for AI subscriptions. Spending is highly concentrated: the top 1% of users spend an average of $903 per month, while the median paying user spends $25. This indicates a power-user economy where a small group drives most revenue.

The new methodology identified 29 products that generate significant consumer spending despite not appearing in traffic-based rankings. Meanwhile, only 11 new products entered the top lists, marking the lowest turnover in the report's history.

OpenAI is diversifying its revenue beyond subscriptions, with its advertising business reaching an annualized run rate of $1 billion as of August 2026. The report identifies shopping, travel, agentic features, and voice tools as key areas for future growth.
