Investment firm 1kx released its second annual Blockchain Revenue Report on October 29, 2026. The firm projects total industry revenue to reach approximately $100 billion for the year, marking a 28% decrease from the previous year's estimate of $140 billion. 1kx attributes this decline primarily to the drop in digital asset prices.

Onchain activity continues to serve as a significant revenue source, with user-paid fees estimated at $3.9 billion for Q3 and projected to reach $14 billion for the full year. Institutional and real-economy applications accounted for 30% of total blockchain revenue in 2026, with this share rising to 33% in Q3, surpassing infrastructure revenue for the first time.

Publicly listed companies are capturing a larger portion of the sector's revenue, increasing their share from 7% in 2022 to 16% in 2026. The six largest public companies generated roughly 60% of this segment's revenue. Additionally, a record 283 blockchain protocols returned value to token holders in Q3 through mechanisms such as fee distributions and buybacks.
