Zocdoc, a New York-based healthcare booking marketplace, has acquired Sohar Health, a startup specializing in automated insurance eligibility verification. This transaction marks the first acquisition in the history of Zocdoc. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Sohar Health was founded in 2023 by Ashish Mandavia and Lucas Gordon. The startup previously raised $3.8 million in seed funding from investors including Kindred Capital, Concept Ventures, Rebel Fund, and Y Combinator. The company participated in the Y Combinator Summer 2023 batch.
The Sohar Health platform provides APIs that verify insurance coverage, confirm provider network status, and estimate patient costs based on basic details. The technology currently supports over 1000 payers across the United States and serves clients such as BetterHelp, Headway, Rula, and Talkiatry.
The two companies established a partnership in 2025, with Zocdoc selecting Sohar as its insurance technology provider. Since that time, millions of Zocdoc users have utilized the integrated verification tools to confirm their coverage during the appointment booking process.
