Zen Browser has emerged as an alternative to the Arc browser, which is being discontinued following its acquisition by Atlassian. The new browser adopts a similar interface design, featuring a sidebar tab layout, pinned sites, and siloed spaces. Unlike Arc, Zen is an open-source project that does not include built-in AI agents or data-tracking features.

The browser supports Firefox extensions and includes a customization system called Zen Mods, which allows users to modify the UI and video playback behavior. It also features a glance view for temporary tabs and a command-based floating bar for navigation and search. The project is maintained by volunteers and funded through donations.

Despite its features, Zen currently faces technical limitations. It lacks support for DRM-protected content, preventing access to platforms like Netflix, Spotify, and Disney+. Additionally, its Web MIDI support is currently limited. The development team is actively working to secure a Widevine license from Google to resolve the DRM playback issues.
