Zcash token holders have voted in favor of reducing the network's target block time from 75 seconds to 25 seconds. This proposal received 99.9% of the ZEC-weighted vote. The change aims to decrease the wait time for the first transaction confirmation while maintaining the current daily issuance of ZEC by adjusting the amount of new tokens created per block.
Participants also voted to preserve the existing halving schedule, with 98.9% support. These updates are intended for the upcoming NU7 network upgrade. Additionally, voters decided to exclude any features that were not implemented by September 30. The activation dates for the testnet and mainnet remain undetermined at this stage.
The community also addressed the Network Sustainability Mechanism, which aims to recycle transaction fees into a pool. Approximately 97% of participants voted to delay the implementation of this mechanism until February 2031. This vote involved 2.3 million ZEC tokens in favor of the delay, compared to 70,239 tokens supporting an immediate start.
The voting process was restricted to spendable ZEC held in the Ironwood shielded pool at the time of the snapshot. While the coinholder vote showed clear preferences, other community groups, such as the Zcash Community Advisory Panel, showed a closer split regarding the issuance curve, with 57 members favoring a gradual curve and 54 supporting the current halving model.
