YouTube has introduced a new feature called Shorts Series, allowing creators to organize vertical videos into seasons and episodes. This tool enables viewers to watch content as a continuous narrative rather than individual clips, featuring custom thumbnails and structured playback options.

The feature is currently rolling out to participants of the YouTube Partner Program across web, mobile, and connected TV platforms. This initiative aims to retain viewers on the platform by providing native tools for episodic storytelling, directly competing with dedicated microdrama apps like ReelShort, DramaBox, and TikTok’s PineDrama.

Shorts Series builds upon the previously announced Creator Shows, which allowed select creators to structure long-form content into seasons for TV viewing. The company also announced additional updates at the Made On YouTube event, including Live Showdowns, expanded A/B testing for videos, and Dynamic Thumbnails for audience optimization.

The rise of vertical microdramas has attracted significant industry attention, with creators like Hannah Stocking and Joshua Ovenshire shifting focus toward this format. Hollywood figures, including James Franco and Issa Rae, have also begun participating in vertical storytelling projects, signaling a broader industry trend.
