Yangwang, the luxury brand under BYD, has officially teased its upcoming flagship sedan. The vehicle features a silhouette reminiscent of the Rolls-Royce Phantom and is equipped with rear-hinged coach doors, a first for the manufacturer. The front design follows the brand's signature ding theme, consistent with the U8 and U8L SUV models, and includes complex LED headlamp elements.
The sedan is expected to be the first BYD vehicle to utilize solid-state battery technology. According to executive Stella Li, the company plans to launch a vehicle with this battery type in 2027. Spy shots indicate the car may support megawatt rapid charging, as it was spotted near a Flash Charging station. The model will likely feature the DiPilot 600 assisted driving system.
The vehicle is equipped with a roof-mounted LiDAR unit. While the manufacturer has not confirmed a pillar-less chassis, it is expected to offer power-operated doors. The sedan will likely be sold in multiple trims, with premium versions featuring solid-state batteries and standard versions utilizing BYD's LFP Blade Battery 2.0 technology.
BYD's strategy involves the coexistence of liquid lithium-ion and solid-state battery systems for the next 15 to 20 years. The new sedan joins a lineup of technology demonstrators, including the U8 SUV, which debuted the e4 quad-motor platform, and the U9 supercar, which is scheduled to attempt a speed record of 500 km/h in November.
