Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Yadea has entered a strategic partnership with the African mobility firm Spiro. Yadea, which has sold over 100 million vehicles globally, will supply electric motorcycles and scooters tailored for the African market. The companies intend to jointly develop two-wheelers designed to withstand local road conditions and intensive commercial use by taxi and delivery operators.

Spiro currently operates more than 130 000 electric motorcycles across seven African countries. The company supports this fleet with a network of over 2 500 battery-swapping stations. According to Spiro, its riders have completed more than 50 million battery swaps and covered over two billion kilometers. The firm maintains regional assembly operations in Uganda, Kenya, Nigeria, and Rwanda.

Yadea brings significant manufacturing capacity to the collaboration, operating 10 production facilities and over 40 000 retail locations worldwide. The company holds more than 2 000 patents related to electric vehicle technology. This partnership integrates Yadea’s production scale with Spiro’s established energy infrastructure.

Spiro recently secured $270 million in funding to support the expansion of its electric motorcycle fleet and battery-swapping network. By combining Yadea’s manufacturing expertise with Spiro’s existing infrastructure, the companies aim to streamline the transition from gasoline to electric transport for high-mileage users across the continent.
