Xiaomi founder and CEO Lei Jun addressed the controversy surrounding his recent public breakfast in Wuhan during a live stream on September 21. The incident involved the executive eating hot dry noodles, which sparked significant online discussion and accusations of staging the event for publicity.
Lei Jun explained that the visit was organized at the request of the Wuhan tourism department to promote local cuisine. He clarified that he was accompanied by only two colleagues—one from Xiaomi and one from the local media—to record a short promotional video for his social media accounts.
The executive noted that the crowd gathered spontaneously as he was eating. He addressed rumors claiming he brought a large film crew, stating that most people filming were bystanders. Lei Jun added that he now avoids public dining to prevent further misunderstandings and public disturbances.
