X launched its US Cashtag Partner Program on September 15. The initiative allows users to trade stocks and cryptocurrencies directly through the platform by clicking on cashtags, which are ticker symbols marked with a dollar sign.

The program partners include Coinbase, Gemini, Kraken, Interactive Brokers, and Moomoo. When a user clicks a cashtag, they see live price charts and a trade button that redirects them to the partner's application or website to complete the transaction.

The platform reported that the pilot program processed approximately $1 billion in trading volume during its first three days. This integration follows the launch of smart cashtags on April 14, which provided enhanced data displays for financial tickers.

X is positioning itself as a distribution channel rather than a broker-dealer. By redirecting users to external platforms, the company avoids the regulatory requirements associated with executing trades directly.

The partnership provides access to nearly 2,400 crypto assets via Kraken. While the model facilitates easier access to trading, it also raises potential regulatory questions regarding promotional liability and the risks of impulsive trading driven by viral content.
