WPS Office has introduced native support for Markdown files, allowing users to open, edit, and save documents with the .md extension. The feature is currently available across Windows, Mac, and web-based platforms.

To access the new functionality, users must update their software to version 12.1.26050 or higher for Mac, and version 12.1.0.28040 or higher for Windows. Files can be opened via right-click, the main menu, or by dragging them directly into the application.

The update includes both source code and WYSIWYG editing modes, along with support for formulas, Mermaid charts, and common elements like tables, links, and code blocks. A dark mode and an efficiency guide for syntax and shortcuts have also been added.

The company stated that the integration aims to streamline AI workflows, as AI agents frequently generate Markdown content. Users can now edit AI-produced files directly in WPS without needing third-party editors, with synchronization features for AI-updated documents.

Several features, including dual-linking, side-by-side comparison, and file export options, are not yet available. WPS confirmed these tools are currently in development and are expected to be released by the end of the year.
