Workiva Inc. is prioritizing governance, data lineage, and human oversight in its product roadmap for AI agents used in financial reporting and compliance. The company aims to ensure that outputs generated by AI are traceable and verifiable, as these reports often require formal sign-offs by professionals.

At the Amplify user conference, the company highlighted its strategy of integrating guardrails and human verification into its AI layer, which was initially launched in July. Deepak Bharadwaj, executive vice president and chief product officer, stated that AI agents are designed to operate under human supervision rather than autonomously.

The company also introduced Agent Studio, a tool that allows business users to define processes using plain language instead of Python scripts. This platform ensures that all agent activities are bounded by specific capabilities and linked to an accountable human supervisor, emphasizing that AI cannot be held legally responsible for its output.
