The Wine-NX project enables Nintendo Switch users to run classic Windows games on the console's native Horizon OS. The software utilizes the Box64 ARM64 dynamic recompiler to translate x86 code, while graphics rendering is handled by the Mesa 20.1 nouveau driver.
Performance tests show Need for Speed: Underground 2 running at 20–45 frames per second on an overclocked CPU. Other titles like OpenTTD reach up to 60 frames per second, and Quake III Arena runs at approximately 37 frames per second at 1280x720 resolution.
Development for Warcraft III is nearing completion, with menus, campaigns, and cutscenes currently functional. The software supports audio, touchscreens, and allows Switch controllers to emulate mouse, keyboard, or Xbox 360 inputs.
The tool is distributed as an NRO homebrew package. Compatibility is limited to early, unpatched Switch models or hardware-modified units capable of running custom firmware.
