Dell XPS 13 laptops with 8GB of RAM are being tested to compare the performance of Windows 11 and Fedora Linux. The tests covered a variety of tasks, including booting, restarting, rebooting, Office software, OCR, web browsing, and file decompression.
The evaluation also included professional software such as VS Code, GIMP for graphics, DaVinci Resolve for video editing, and Blender for rendering, as wells as Cyberpunk 2077. The results showed that while Windows 11 matched Linux in some areas, it lagged behind in rebooting, file decompression, image processing, and video editing.
The primary difference was observed in memory usage. In an idle state, Fedora Linux consumes only 32.9% of the same 8GB RAM, leaving two-thirds of the memory available for workloads. In contrast, Windows 11 consumes 85% of the RAM when idle, leaving very little memory for actual tasks.
