Microsoft released the Windows 11 operating system on October 5, 2021. Five years later, the platform has officially surpassed one billion active users worldwide. The company noted that the software reached this milestone in 1,576 days, outpacing the 1,706-day record set by its predecessor, Windows 10.

The operating system has undergone significant interface and layout changes since its initial launch. Despite these updates, users have frequently reported issues such as system crashes and bugs following software patches. Microsoft continues to integrate new features into the platform as part of its long-term strategy.

During the fourth quarter of 2025, which concluded on December 31, Microsoft confirmed that Windows 11 is meeting its performance targets faster than previous versions. The company currently has no immediate plans to release a successor, such as Windows 12, intending to maintain Windows 11 for the foreseeable future.
