Russian robotics software developer Wheelies, a subsidiary of ITG, has introduced a new method for precision agricultural monitoring. The system utilizes autonomous drones to calculate the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), allowing for detailed analysis of specific field sections rather than broad, low-resolution satellite coverage.

The process involves generating high-resolution orthophotomaps that highlight variations in vegetation health. This data enables agricultural enterprises to track changes over time and identify specific areas requiring manual inspection or intervention. The drone-based approach serves as a diagnostic tool to support professional decision-making.

Wheelies plans to integrate these monitoring results directly into field operations. Once an area is analyzed, managers can assign specific tasks to field workers based on the collected data. The system also tracks the completion of these tasks, incorporating the results into future monitoring cycles to improve overall management efficiency.

According to Vlada Shtyrova, Executive Director of Wheelies, the primary goal of this digitalization effort is to convert large datasets into actionable management tools. By transforming raw analytics into precise field actions, the company aims to ensure more predictable outcomes for agricultural production.
