WhatsApp has introduced a feature allowing users to join audio and video calls via a browser link without needing an account, registration, or app installation. The feature is accessible across computers, laptops, smartphones, and tablets.
Only registered users can initiate calls and generate invitation links. Guests joining via browser must wait for the organizer's approval to enter the call. Participants without accounts cannot send messages, view phone numbers, or invite others, but they can use screen sharing and reactions.
The platform supports up to 32 participants per conference. Calls remain free, unlimited in duration, and protected by end-to-end encryption. The service is globally available, though it remains restricted in Russia.
In Russia, WhatsApp audio and video calls have been blocked by authorities since August 2025. By late 2025, the service faced 80% traffic throttling, and by early 2026, its domain was removed from local DNS servers.
