WhatsApp has introduced a feature allowing users to invite individuals without a registered account to voice and video calls. To join, guests simply open a link in a desktop browser. These calls remain free of charge, support up to 32 participants, and feature no time limits. All sessions are protected by end-to-end encryption.
Guests enter a virtual waiting room and require the host's approval to join the call. While they cannot send messages or invite others, they can use screen sharing, emoji reactions, and the raise-hand function. Hosts retain full control, including the ability to remove guests from the call at any time.
To generate an invitation, a registered WhatsApp user must navigate to the Calls tab and select the plus icon to create a link. By the end of the year, the developers intend to integrate this functionality with Google and Outlook calendars, enabling users to schedule calls directly from their calendars.
