A newly launched validator on the Solana network has received a stake worth $1 million from an unidentified whale. This transaction was recorded on the public Solana Explorer, highlighting the growing reliance of new operators on private capital rather than foundation support.

Operating a validator on Solana requires significant investment. Monthly fixed costs for hardware and bandwidth range from $3,000 to $5,000, with additional daily vote fees of approximately 1 SOL. To reach a break-even point, a new validator typically requires at least 150 000 SOL in delegated stake.

The Solana network currently supports between 676 and 686 active validators, with a total active stake ranging from 437.5 million to 440.8 million SOL. This volume represents nearly 69% of the total circulating supply of the token.

The role of the Solana Foundation in supporting new validators has diminished, as its share of network stake has declined. Consequently, operators must now secure backing from whales, investment funds, or retail stakers to remain competitive and cover their operational expenses.
